How I became a Japanese Teacher

After graduating from the University of Tokyo, I abandoned an academic path halfway through a PhD in Philosophy and Art theory. In 2018, I pivoted to language teaching, first teaching English at a local language school for a couple of years. I left the job during the COVID pandemic and after a period of soul-searching—which included farm work with horses (yes, it was unexpected)—I became a certified Japanese teacher and started teaching Japanese online on a a platform called italki in 2022.

Overseas experiences

When I was in high school, I studied in the U.S. (Colorado) as an exchange student for a year. I also studied in Germany (Berlin, HU) for a year as an undergrad.

Other things about me

One of my hobbies is doing amateur performances of Noh theater. I first started in the university student club. I practice two of the four musical instruments used in Noh theater (Ootsuzumi and Kotsuzumi) and participate in the club performances sometimes.

Other than that, I enjoy playing the piano and singing.
